And Sharon Holt

Sharon Holt is a local Hamilton children's author. Many children have seen her educational books in the Ready to Read series.
The titles you might remember are "No Skipper!" and "Skipper's Happy Tail". You might have also read "The Amazing Maize Maze". Sharon was a finalist in the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards in 2007 with her book about how to write jokes. It's called "It's True... You can make your own jokes". Sharon has also written two books in Scholastic's "My Story..." series.

Sharon's books are usually published by publishers in New Zealand and Australia. However, this time Sharon has published her two new books with the help of a friend. So now she's not only an author, she's a marketer and book seller! Sharon's latest books are in the Maori language. They are picture song books with CDs that help children, teachers and parents to learn sentences in Maori. Book 1 is called "Maranga Mai!". It's about waking up on the farm and includes lots of animal noises. Book 2 is called "Kei te Peke Ahau". It's about actions like jumping, running, flying and hiding. Sharon plans to write more books in the series, which is called Te Reo Singalong.

The illustrator Sharon's Te Reo Singalong books is Deborah Hinde, who has illustrated many New Zealand picture books including "Cow Power" and "A Kiwi Night Before Christmas". The musicians on the CDs are Graeme Stewart and Stacy Walker. Everyone involved in creating the books lives in the Waikato. Each book features a glossary, English translation, guitar chords and a list of 10 activities. You can find out more about this new series at the website: http://tereosingalong.co.nz.
